Project Introduction: My group and I were tasked with creating a prototype for an app that could solve a real-world problem. We initially began our project focusing on language barriers in the healthcare system. While this problem is still relevant to our design process, we interviewed health care patients and workers for our primary research, which told us that there were other issues that needed attention first. Our project evolved to become a tool that strives for holistic care. Ranging from a medical records application to an app with a built-in medical translator, the application will provide all-around patient care in a system that often lacks it.
Patient-Focused Design: Our project primarily focuses on the patient rather than the healthcare professional. This decision was guided by our primary research findings. Overall, patients expressed a greater desire for change in the healthcare system compared to the medical professionals we interviewed. We also had numerous rounds of user testing, which helped us create an easy to use application to help simplify the complicated world of healthcare.
